Calatrava update and it’s not easy being a cherub

Awhile back, some well lubricated mainlanders DROVE THEIR CAR across the Calatrava bridge, which is a pedestrian bridge. Remember, Venice doesn’t cater for motor cars! Controlled uproar followed this act of, well, stupidity.

Anyhow, the council has now placed this honking big planter at the base of the bridge, to deter copy cats.

Meanwhile, in the Chiesa Santa Maria del Rosario (Gesuati), this wee cherub shows that life in the angelic lane is not all it’s cracked up to be.

This is my reward for being good?!

  1. It sure is an ugly thing! I’m just starting to have a good time.. have had some strange Venetian respiratory infection. Thank goodness I’m here for a long haul! Off to find your strange shrine in Rio Terra di Salon, tomorrow. Ciao!

  2. Boy that big flower pot is ugly. The cherub, however, is adorable even if he does have the weight of the world on his shoulders.

Hope you’re having a wonderful time!

  3. Well, considering the length of time taken to build the bridge, and the attendant cost over -run, maybe they decided to cut some corners. Or, dreaded thought, a committee is planning a ‘permanent’ solution? Either way, the cherub has the right facial expression!

  4. At least they could have obtained a Caltravo-designed planter or a couple of removable bollards for the bridge approach…harummph! Perhaps that is why the cherub is frowning?
