I’ve been in my new home in Myrtleford, Victoria for well over a week now.
Progress: my car (Cedric the Sissy car) arrived this morning, the telecommunications guy came and connected the phone, and my goods and chattels will arrive on Monday. Oh, and Minx the cat has finally set her paws outside after being spooked by all the strangeness of this new place.
Lack of progress: it’ll be 3-7 working days before I have internet at home. Thanks to the generosity of the library and also the pesky tourist who lives here, I do have access until I can be independent.
I want to tell you about the initiative of Ann-Marie, one of the staff at the local Foodworks supermarket. She had a little brain wave, spoke to the owner about her idea, and the result is this display of tempting fruit which the little ones can sample for free.
Good on ya, Ann-Marie. (And I made sure to spell your name correctly.)
I’ll no doubt tell you more about this cool (in all forms of the definition) little town, as I get to know it a bit better. It’s late winter/early spring, and the trees are going overboard with their blossoms. This prunus is at the entry to the court I now call home.
Should I go along to one of these sessions? Do you think it could be a laugh?

I hope your move is less traumatic than ours, Yvonne? Are you now in a temperate climate (=cold + wet). If so you can grow proper British plants now :-))

The move was far less traumatic than yours, but I didn’t have to travel all those thousands of kilometers, nor cope with renovations.
Yes, I’m anticipating plants like lavender, poppies, tulips, daffodils … the list goes on.

Looks like there’s a big welcome mat out there, and a tree that would cheer me up every time I passed by. Have pity on us poor English, faced with winter now! Glad to hear from you again Yvonne, MGW says Myrtleford is a nice place. I have never been there that I can remember. However, I have participated in ‘laughing’ professional development sessions. Will be interesting to read your report. BTW welcome to the Garden State 🙂 Time has slipped away…thought you were not moving for a while, yet.

Myrtleford seems quite nice, everyone is very friendly, lots of smiles and g’days! And, Victoria has so many interesting places, not so far apart as those in Queensland.
I haven’t gone to the laughter yoga yet, but I’ll do my best, Wooly one.

Nice to be near your family. Glad the move is going well. What are the logistics of that long north/south journey? Is your furniture brought by road or air? And most importantly is it still relatively easy to get to Italy? Regards Nosey of Westcliff on Sea.

Hi, Nosey. The furniture was packed in a shipping container and went by truck to Cairns (it took about half the space in the container). Then, it had a train trip to Albury, NSW, and then it was moved to a truck once again to come to my new door.
I’ll have to get to Melbourne for flights to Italy. That will involve driving to Albury, plane to Melbourne, then flights to wherever. It was probably easier from Dismal Swamp!!

I think you’ve arrived in Myrtleford at just the right time of year. If you’d arrived mid-winter or mid-summer, you may have formed negative opinions rapidly.
I love that area. Mainly for the wineries. 😉

Good morning, Michel. Everywhere I look, I see mountains and woodlands. It’s very pretty. The people are friendly, which is a nice thing to have in a new place. (And, they have many vineyards in the area, another bonus.)

So glad you are settling in. I’d be laughing in any yoga class just trying to get down on the floor and back up again….or is that crying.
I think it’s a lovely place that has blooming trees (here we have a steak house that claims to be Australian that serves bloomin’ onions), free fruit for kids and people don’t take yoga seriously. Welcome home. And watch out for that truck that PN sent from Tel-Italia to install your internet.

I was worried at first, she was right off her food. But she soon made up for lost calories. She used the litter tray like a champ, after never knowing such a thing existed. Altogether, a superior sort of moggie! 🙂 ❤

The great difference between Myrtleford and sleepy hollow is that up in QLD it is always hot and dry or hot and wet. In Myrtleford it is going to be cold and wet and cold and dry and hot and stinking hot and wet and as dry as a camels armpit and everything inbetween. And there used to be a lot of Italians there growing hops and tobacco so join the history club and start telling us all about it. So get on with it.

There are still a few of us who aren’t Italian in this town, John! And, there are still a few tobacco kilns around the place, too.
My son and daughter in law (the pesky tourists) said the fellow who runs the history group is good value, so I may be thumping at their door soon.
