When you least expect it

Ages ago, my blogging mate Peter romandespatches  sent me these photos.

He had been meandering through a cemetery in England, when his eye was caught by a flash of white on the grass.

Luckily he stopped for  a closer look, and found this:

It’s a bit hard to decipher what was on this shopping list, and we are left to ponder how it came to be lost/discarded in a cemetery.

Here are my best guesses:

  • milk
  • double cream 75 ml
  • 1/2 fat (?) fresh 75 ml
  • no idea
  • some medication 50 mg
  • flat leaf parsley
  • chicken

Thank you for thinking of us, Peter.

  9. HA! I’m getting my grocery list ready today for shopping tomorrow. Nothing weird or puzzling on it…just “boring” 😉 stuff like onions, carrots, almond milk, grapes…
Maybe I’ll add “rope” and “gumption” and see what I find in the store! 😉
(((HUGS))) and hope you are well and smiling! 🙂

Dear Yvonne, I hope you are OK. So many things here in Venice remind me of you often (not least “Yvonne’s bottom”!), as well as my lovely cosy red socks. Love from the 3 of us.

  20. Hi Yvonne! We used to be in touch when we both read and commented on Cynthia’s posts. I do miss her so much. How have you been? (I am in Sydney by the way) I should send you some of my own shopping lists! They will make interesting reads!

    • Hi to you. Every so often, I come across one of Cynthia’s intelligent comments inan old post. It never fails to make me recall her voice.
I rarely post these days, but one of yourshopinglist might bring me out of my cocoon.

  26. Hi Yvonne,
we supopose, the word is ‘parmesan’.
We have the attitude that we have to read every piece of paper lost or thrown away. The surrounding of the cemetery makes it, of course, to seem more meaningful.

  28. Yes, a big thank you to Peter…for sharing this fun list!
Hmm…wonder if someone dropped it or it blew there on a windy day. ??? 🙂 It looks like it’s been battered about or stepped on.
I think combining some of those items together would make a delicious meal! 🙂

  29. Definitely Parmesan shavings. I think also 75ml Crème fraîche but it looks as though the writer had a couple of attempts at spelling it. Pancetta is a possibility as is Panna cotta, but 50g? An odd value.

The shopping list could have been at the bottom of a carrier bag, I take one to the cemetery so that I can carry the dead flowers to the bin easier. 🙂

  30. I turned it left, I turned it right, I blew it up and shrunk it down. I got Parmesan on top of what you gave. But, as in ancient Egypt where the dead people took groceries for the journey in the afterlife, I can’t imagine anyone wanting to take Parmesan.

  33. Thanks very much, Yvonne.

I’d clearly not read it properly as it’s given us some mysteries, hasn’t it?

I think the outstanding items are:
    Possibly half-fat cream?
    Parmesan shavings

I think the 50g is pancetta rather than medication.

They are surely making an Italian dish?!

    Peter.

  34. Is the fourth item parmesan? Although I can’t make out the second word.
