Oh Carol (*)

Another one of the eagle-eyed mob sent a shopping list. Thank you Carol! She found it at Coles Northpoint, in Toowoomba, which is a lovely city in Queensland.

Carol blogs using the pseudonym of the eternal traveller. Her posts make me quite green with envy! https://theeternaltraveller.wordpress.com/

Herewith the list. I have a feeling that a stir-fry might be on the menu. Hopefully, not with that darn lamb. Can you even do a stir-fry with lamb??

I must look for lemongrass paste (one of the items scribbled through) next time I’m in my Coles shop.

(*) Just for you, Carol

  2. Hi Sister, I brought a pie with sauce the other day. A big day out for a disabled pensioner like me. It was crap so I ditched in the bin and went and brought a litre of wine instead, much better. I went home and cooked pasta with pesto and parmigiana cheese plus a generous drizzle of olive oil. Really good, still pissed off about the pie but at least the attendant at the bottle didn’t put my wine in a brown paper bag.
PS: Miss you at the Arms, your wit is that of an educator. 🙂

  3. I know you don’t like lamb but there was a couple of different meats – but agree we might be having stir fry.

  6. I wonder if this shopper does what I do – stock up on meat and freeze it so I don’t have to go shopping so often. Yvonne, you will find the lemongrass paste in the tubes in the section where all the fresh herbs are.

Oh yes, an interesting list – although it seems a bit meat-heavy & veg-light for me too. Maybe the writer gets most of their veg from somewhere else like a farmers’ market. And I see Toowoomba is inland, so maybe people don’t eat much fish?

Here in Venice, in the last year DH has extended his cooking repertoire into Indian and Thai which I’m enjoying greatly, but it is problematic getting ingredients. I haven’t yet found any lemongrass or Thai lime leaves at all here, so have depended on orders from ‘British Corner Shop’ for dried ones (and various other spices) – but a jar of dried lemongrass only contains *3* sticks!

    • Hi Caroline. I have seen photos of actual queues once again at various places in Venice, with Italians being able to cautiously visit in their own country.

I have been craving pasta with clams, but we’re too far from the ocean here, also.

I enjoyed your DH’s latest Nathan adventure, it might be the best yet. Say hi to him, and to the lovely Mimi. ❤

Oh dear, I haven’t come across any queues yet but I am bracing myself 😦 In some ways, we have been very lucky to have experienced Venice as it can’t have been for decades: last Wednesday lunchtime I got off the no. 2 boat at San Zaccaria along with 3 other passengers!

We went out for lunch with friends last Saturday for the first time in 2 or 3 months, and I had bigoli with clams and samphire – delicious (sorry)!

Will pass on your greetings to DH and Mimi, glad you enjoyed the book! Give Minx a hug from us. Cx

    • Hi Caroline, yes Toowoomba is about two hours from the coast but we do have fresh seafood. People are more likely to go to a seafood shop though if they want fresh fish rather than buy it at the supermarket.

  11. This must be the best handwriting on a shopping list yet. I do like lamb but Yvonne has made me scared to feature it.

  12. So much meat, do they eat meat every day?

  13. Wow. There are three different meats so stir fry, roast and curry. That’s what I’d do with that. But it is up the top of your shopping lists.

  14. What a mixture! I always like to have lemon grass growing in the garden so no lemongrass paste. I’m happy to say I have all those spices/herbs growing in the garden or in the cupboard except for the kaffir lime leaves!

  15. Definitely looks like a recipe or two or three. Can you buy kaffir lime leaves in Coles? How exotic!
