    Somewhere. In Toecello perhaps…

They look like they’ve got three chains which is odd, and they also look like they have back-rests, so probably not for catching fish (unless they’re fish that like to lean back…) Would they be for getting people across a river on a pulley system? Don’t know where it is, though. India? Asia?

  3. It’s so obvious where it is – although what you were doing there to take the photo I can only guess. It’s Putsonderwater, which is now a derelict ghost-town situated in the Karoo region of South Africa. The name obviously comes from the fact that they would put dead or dying bodies into the boxes (like Grandma) and lower them into the creek to be finished off by fish.

I’d go with Caroline. The crates are called vieri and they are for keeping crabs in until they become moeche, soft-shelled crabs.

  6. I have no idea. I could guess, but I’d probably be wrong.
Okay…I’ll guess…Asia, South America, Africa, North America, Antarctica, Europe, or Australia? It has to be in one of these right?!?! πŸ˜‰ HA! πŸ˜€
I can’t wait to find out specifically where AND what the baskets are used for!
    HUGS!!! πŸ™‚

  7. I’m thinking somewhere in Asia. (trying a broader guess after my dismal failure last time)

  8. That is very tricky. It looks like the high water mark comes just to the bottom of the basket so …..and don’t know why that would be relevant. I’m thinking a bayou or . . .

    • Have you been talking to John (paolsoren)?

Not a bayou, not Louisiana. Is that what they look like?

      • I was thinking that something would either be planted (water plant) or farmed in those boxes. The orange trees look like bald cypress in the photo if it’s fall, and the water is murky, but likely moving slowly…so it did make me think of a wetland area, delta, or bayou. But … I have no real clue. And I HAVEN’t been talking to John (or anyone, actually; this is my first trip back to read in months. What a year) Let us know what those boxes are and where they are!!!!
