I quite like brains, but not in a combination like that. Disgusting! Once I asked a butcher if he had any brains – his response was “If I had any brains I wouldn’t be a butcher!” Everyone laughed.
My mom used to prepare the beef heart with a tasty stuffing. I remember the stuffing, not the heart muscle. She also did chicken livers which I really liked. Oh, and the gizzards … least said, the better.
Because this awful sounding combination of lamb brains and macaroni was intended for children, do you think parents bought it thinking their children would be smarter? Poor little people!
I don’t even know if it still exists, Bert. It was gawdawful processed muck, disguised as meat. The thought makes my gorge rise. I hope it wasn’t ground up Devon folks! (Are you too young to have seen Soylent Green?)
I am sure that there are many a pantry with cans like this lurking in a dark corner. Not us, eh Yvonne, as we have moved house. I threw away the barrels of salted pork and maggot biscuits before I moved 😉 ❤
HA! No! 😀
I definitely need more brains, but I’m sure inserting them via my mouth is not the way to go! 😉 😛 And the poor little lamb that lost his/her brains! 😮
Great photo, Yvonne! 🙂
HUGS!!! 🙂
That was from a museum in an information centre in some town in the Snowy Mountains.(That should help you pinpoint the location, should you go looking fpr it!)
Indeed, poor little cute, white, cuddly, innocent lamb.
I remember when we first lived in Australia, I did private nursing for an old bloke, and had to cook lamb’s brains for him. It was a shock to this Canadian, for sure!
I assume it’s some sort of baby food, and therefore I shall not be putting it on any list that I give to YKW!
Anyway where have you been hiding? I’ve missed your pithy comments and insults;
Fried lamb brains, lovely! (Although I’d take sweetbreads for preference.) Babyfood, no 🙂

Probably because it would be so difficult to find the right wine pairing, eh?

I must try that question on my butcher, ET.

I’m not sure you can put a photo into the comments, Anna. Out of curiosity, what is the photo?

I think offal meat is awful. But I suppose a few of us unsuspecting children were fed this without our informed consent.

You’re losing me Yvonne 🙂 Although I once did cook chicken livers for a boyfriend. That’s real love, in my opinion. Pity it was misplaced 🙂

Those organ meats have tons of life giving nutrients – and if cooked right they are so delicious

Is Devon some kind of Australian foodstuff?

I’m not too young to have seen it, but I haven’t. I think I’ve heard of it, but I didn’t know it was a film.

When I was a kid, my parents (who were farmers) ate cow brains and it freaked me out! Ha! 😀 But they ate every part of the cow, except the moo! 🙂

I can’t recall ever being subjected to cow brains, but do remember mom cleaning the intestines, to use as casings for sausages. How brave was she?
You wasted the best part of the cows, the moo. So tender, so tasty, so low in calories. 😊

HA! You made me snort-laugh! 😀

Almost as bad as our introduction to Devon and Vegemite back in 1956 after our arrival from Holland.

Lamb’s brains would be okay – I’m heavily into offal – but macaroni? Yuk!

I’ve been busy with this and that, and moping a bit, M’Lord. I need to get to Italy soon, before I get as old as you! So, within the next 12 months.
How are you, you crusty old curmudgeon?
