In anticipation of your visit, and not wanting to appear a total klutz when we head to the hydrofoil to go visit Karen and Mike in their new home, I decided to do a little trial run of getting to the correct place at the harbour. All I can say is “Such fun I had!”
I had read online all about getting there by tram, it sounded ever so simple. (When will I ever learn?) I walked to Piazza Garibaldi where I “knew” I’d be able to buy tickets and catch Tram 1. I finally found the tram lines and saw a sign that said “Fermata provvisoria”. I gave myself a pat on the back for being able to translate that to “Temporary stop”. Barb will be so impressed, I thought. I waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, I went into the train station, found the Tourist Information folks and asked them where I could find that darn tram. An indulgent laugh emitted from the young lady. She said “Signora, there USED to be a tram.” Now, I had the choice of a bus or the metro. So, Barb, you’re going to just love riding the metro, I promise! Or, even if you don’t, my strong advice to you is to grit your teeth and say nothing.
Barb, the metro station is about 4 floors below ground level. Are you okay with that?
My first view of Mount Vesuvius, in the early morning haze.
Just a few images from the waterfront. We can take a rowboat ride, if you want to.
This shy fellow volunteered to have his photo taken, and was happy to be seen on my blog. Thanks, Francesco.
We can go here, if that is your wish, Barb.
I probably looked a bit like this when my mission was accomplished. Very pleased, indeed.
So, don’t say you haven’t been warned, and don’t complain when I get us lost a few times!
Some of the metro stops are wonderful works of art within themselves and theres one showing the finds as they constructed it through 6 epochs of humanity. the metro is where it’s all at!

I can’t imagine the hard work needed to construct metros in these ancient European cities! And, they keep bumping into past civilizations as they go, quite amazing.

Ah, there’s nothing like a dry run to make you feel like an expert when someone is there to be squired around. I loved those plastic snails.

They’ve done an astounding job in modernising that station. I think that’ll be one of our excursions, come to think of it, a few hours exploring the place!
Expert? Not quite, but maybe less of a loser. 🙂

Yvonne, I have many similar travel stories! One time I walked and walked looking for a certain restaurant with no luck. I finally walked to the taxi stand defeated. When I asked the driver if he would take me to the restaurant he sighed and gazed across the street…. I followed his stare and there, of course, was the restaurant! Oops, sorry, never mind. Yikes, was I embarrassed! Oh well, I tried! Looking forward to reading about what kind of trouble you and Barb can get into! xx

You’re lucky the driver didn’t take you for a spin around the city and then deliver you to the restaurant, eh? I’m kind of hoping Barb will have a steadying influence on me … xxxx

So it would seem that there are still railway lines at the station but no tram……………..?

Sadly, yes. But the metro is a beauty!

Piazza Garibaldi rings a bell. The railway station looks totally different. It was always enormous. Glad you met up with Barb, if that’s what was suppose to happen.

The station is so modernised now, they did a lot in a relatively short time. Barb gets here next week, I have to make sure to be there when her train arrives! I better practise that today. 😆
What are our dreaded pollies up to now?

The pollies here are so hopeless. It’s getting darker all the time. I keep humming ‘Oh sole mio.’

Getting lost can be fun. You never know what you might discover. You and Barb are going to have a great time. I’m a little envious. ☺

Barb is an easy companion. I mean easy in the sense that she goes along with most suggestions, with good nature. This part of Naples begs for exploring and getting a tad misplaced, et. 😊

She doesn’t scare easily, but you’d make a wonderful addition to the party, Susie.

If you have time explore Baia the Las Vegas of Ancient Italy. Part did a slide into the sea but a lot is still there on land and very interesting not many people go there. This link will tell you all about it. Something different

Oh the joys of travelling alone! I assumed (and you know what they say about that!) that you were Italian fluent. I stand corrected 🙂 I hope you will post about your adventures with your friend Barb, I’m sure there will be lots of unexpected side roads and forays 🙂

Unexpected will be the key word, especially when Barb is involved.
I know enough Italian to make many mistakes.

It’s going to be such fun but be careful! I just might fall in love with Napoli and extend my visit with you. I don’t have to be on the plane headed home until 1 May! Lucky you! 🙂

That’s good, we’ll have many opportunities to get lost and/or sit and drink wine. Have a good flight, MT. ❤

Hi, I’ll meet you anytime if you make the journey such fun as reading about this one was. But I know what you mean, I’ve been caught with signs that are still standing years after the connections with them have disappeared.

I was very grateful I was on my own when all this happened, Mari. But, that’s the sort of thing that makes travel fun. It would have been different if I needed to be somewhere at a specific time, then I wouldn’t have been so cheery!
