In which I’m given some answers

Thanks to Miky (*)  who writes a most interesting blog, we now know what this stemma I saw in Pistoia represents.

P1010352

The pig/swine is the attribute of the Cancellieri family, who once figured in the political life of Tuscany. This particular depiction can be found on the facade of the palace that bears their name.

If heraldry is of interest to you, follow this link and run the Italian through a translator.  Cancellieri

(*) Miky blogs at https://passion4food4fashion.com/  She is trying to find some information about the other image shown on my post  frustration That’s over and above the call of duty, I reckon!

    • I just looked through the photos again, Miky, and the one with the monkey was taken about 1 to 1and 1/2 minutes before the Cancellieri stemma. So, it’s somewhere nearby!

Very interesting albeit super creepy looking 😀 I wonder how the noble families decided on which animal should represent them.

    • It surely is a tad ceepy. I’ve looked at some of the online sites and there are thousands of family crests, just in Italy.

Sometimes, the animal is the Italian word for their family name. Then, you wonder which cam first!

  11. Good to find out what it means. I guess the great thing about blogging is there’s always likely to be someone out there who knows the answer to just about any question. 🙂

    • I was so pleased to be put in touch with this gracious lady who lives in Pistoia. Michel. I hope I can meet her one day and thank her with an espresso and cake, or an aperitivo.
