Just look at what this artist has produced as he stood on the sidewalk at the edge of the River Arno. Talent? Just a little bit.
The next time you hear from me, I’ll be in the Northern hemisphere, wearing a red coat.

And I was going to say you still would not have reached the end of that sketch. But red coat in Venice? Do you recall a film called ‘Don’t Look Now’?

Ohh, I sure do know that film, creepy, isn’t it! Have you watched The Comfort of Strangers, also set in Venice? If you’ve been missing out on nightmares, this is the movie for you.

We’re envious of you, off to Venice in the winter! We’ve been there at this time of year several times, and love it! As long as you have the right jumpers and topcoat, and don’t mislay those wellies… Good job Bert’s not in town then, he’s not a fan of Red coats, they mess his photos up!
Enjoy it, say “hello” to the place from us – we’ll be back, but it’ll be next year. And don’t forget to take LOTS of pictures, to make us nostalgic – and yes, very envious, too.

It was lovely to step out into crisp air, and to be able to see my breath. It was super lovely to find the vaporetto not jammed with sweating tourists!
Venice says hello back, and hopes to see you soon. 🙂

Thank you! I can’t get the gas stove to work, so I haven’t had my caffeine this morning. Grumble.

Yvonne, my stivali are spending the next 6 weeks in Karen’s magazzino – you’re welcome to use them if you like, I’ll leave them separately in a bag!

That’s so nice of you, Anne! What size are they, I have generous underpinnings, size 39-40. I’m getting a bit excited now.

Anch’io – 40, & leopard print from Nadia’s – they’d go quite well with a red coat!

That’s so funny…as a fan of leopard print myself I thought some leopard ones would be fab with Yvonne’s red coat!

Thank you for your nice wishes, Michel. I’ll be in Venice until late January, then Lucca in Tuscany. Cold is good, but, please, not too much rain. ❤

Fantastic drawing! If I had a choice of talent and way of life, I would travel the world with nothing but a pencil and a large note pad. Oh – and a red coat!

Oh, the stories you could weave then, Bruce, in your red coat.

It’s what’s one is wearing under the coat that matters!

Well, you did say ONLY a pencil, a large note pad and a red coat, so that doesn’t leave much but you under that coat.

There is conceivably room for quite a lot under the red coat.

Why a redcoat Yvonne? Are you off to Butlins?

Now I have to find the connection between Butlins (I have a vague idea what that is/was) and red coats. It’s good to hear from you.
Oh, the red coat: I want everyone to wear bright colours in winter, so I set an example.

Or, Six White Boomers:

I had never heard about the six white boomers before! In Clement Moore’s classic “The Night Before Christmas” Santa has 8 reindeer…Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen. Sometime in the 1950’s Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer was added as the avant garde.
Such an appropriate subject for this blog, I know. 🙂

You’re a better woman than I! I couldn’t even contemplate making such a trip, never mind dragging a suitcase. What kind of winter weather does Venice have?

It can get down to below zero (Celsius), the days can be sunny and cool to cold. But, not northern USA/Canada cold. I’ve been there when it snowed, and the water in some of the canals froze. I’ll try to post weather reports as I go, Cynthia. Try to keep Bruce under control. Hah!

They had a huge acqua alta this morning, stivali might be on my shopping list.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Higher than the 90 cm that was forecast? That wouldn’t even set off the siren. And the highest prediction for the next few days is 90 cm. My Castello apartment doesn’t get the gate installed till 120cm and you know it’s right on a canal.
So when you say “huge”….it means…?
Funny, no chatter on TA about it or even asking. Which is a little strange. Maybe they banned acqua alta questions.
So you needed a new pair of cute stivali didn’t you?
I have an android app on my Samsung tablet (free) called….you guessed it “Acqua Alta” it’s in Italian but that won’t bother you and you can get both the print forecast and the graph that we are so used to looking at as well as a couple of webcams(black and white only)

I’ve sent you a couple of photos, Michelle. As long as the stivali go with the red coat, they don’t have to be cute!
