What did I do to deserve this?

I mean, look at this sunset! I must have been extraordinarily good for a few moments.

Then, I was gifted with an extra bonus when I noticed this blossom on a tree that I thought was a Plane tree. I’m waiting for my local expert to identify it. Maybe one of you folks knows what it is.

My knowledge base goes like this “It’s a tree, with a pretty blossom.”

  5. What a beautiful sunset! I’m glad some of the other commenters were able to identify the flower for you, by the way. I’d have been no help, I’m afraid.

  7. Now I know where all the good sunsets are. We have had very ordinary setting suns of late and I look forward to seeing one like your Myrtleford sunset.

  8. I had tulip poplars in North Carolina but their flowers were pink and white but I think the leaves were the same.
Now I’ll always see a cat face when I look at that leaf shape too!

  10. That is what’s called a tulip poplar. We have them all over here. Think they’re native to North America. I always thought their leaves looked like cartoon cat faces!

  11. Yup, the flower looks Magnolia-like, but the leaves show it’s a Tulip Tree, lucky you. Can I have some of your luck, please?

  12. The sunset was a prize for moving down to Vic and the tree is a prize to us for following your blob.

  13. You captured a beautiful sunset…but will you be satisfied? No. You’ll be looking for another beautiful sunset again before you know it, and this one will just be an old photo.

And the flower on the tree….is it more beautiful when it has a Latin label.?..can you enjoy it more? Does itself even know its name?

I am in a mood today. Thanks for posting these two beauties, Yvonne. Ya musta been a good girl, momentarily, as you say.

    • So far, subsequent sunsets have been very ordinary or non-existent due to cloud cover, but I shan’t give up, Cynthia.

I’ll go and talk to that tree later this morning, calling it by its proper name and also its common name. I’ll report any change in its responses.

So, today is a day to avoid you and your mood, is it? Go and see what Bruce has written. That’ll either lift your mood, or give you a good opportunity to vent a bit. Cheers!

Lovely sunset Yvonne, of course it was for you. 🙂 The flower, don’t know.

  16. Oh for goodness sake – it’s very ordinary – it’s called a “very unplain tree” – a plain tree wouldn’t have flowers like that – glad to have solved your problem. (And in passing I might add that a plane tree makes one hell of a mess on the lawn with twigs – so it’s not a plane!)

  17. In German we call it “Tulpenbaum” (tulip tree). I googled :Liriodendron tulipifera. It is some sort of magnolia. In our town we have a forest with exotic trees and I remembered the unusual shape of the leave. I never saw it bloom. Thank you!

  22. Looks like it might be a passion flower of the passion fruit. But it would be a vine in that case. I think.
