I mean, look at this sunset! I must have been extraordinarily good for a few moments.
Then, I was gifted with an extra bonus when I noticed this blossom on a tree that I thought was a Plane tree. I’m waiting for my local expert to identify it. Maybe one of you folks knows what it is.
i love your spirit…

Now I know where all the good sunsets are. We have had very ordinary setting suns of late and I look forward to seeing one like your Myrtleford sunset.

I had tulip poplars in North Carolina but their flowers were pink and white but I think the leaves were the same.
Now I’ll always see a cat face when I look at that leaf shape too!

That is what’s called a tulip poplar. We have them all over here. Think they’re native to North America. I always thought their leaves looked like cartoon cat faces!

I’ll never get that image of a cat face out of my mind now!

Yup, the flower looks Magnolia-like, but the leaves show it’s a Tulip Tree, lucky you. Can I have some of your luck, please?

You captured a beautiful sunset…but will you be satisfied? No. You’ll be looking for another beautiful sunset again before you know it, and this one will just be an old photo.
And the flower on the tree….is it more beautiful when it has a Latin label.?..can you enjoy it more? Does itself even know its name?
I am in a mood today. Thanks for posting these two beauties, Yvonne. Ya musta been a good girl, momentarily, as you say.

So far, subsequent sunsets have been very ordinary or non-existent due to cloud cover, but I shan’t give up, Cynthia.
I’ll go and talk to that tree later this morning, calling it by its proper name and also its common name. I’ll report any change in its responses.
So, today is a day to avoid you and your mood, is it? Go and see what Bruce has written. That’ll either lift your mood, or give you a good opportunity to vent a bit. Cheers!

You’re a dear, Yvonne, but I doubt the tree will respond…they like to keep their real names to themselves…..thanks for the advice; Bruce does have a habit of making me laugh!

Folks have identified it, look further down in the comments.
Here you go: Liriodendron tulipifera

Oh for goodness sake – it’s very ordinary – it’s called a “very unplain tree” – a plain tree wouldn’t have flowers like that – glad to have solved your problem. (And in passing I might add that a plane tree makes one hell of a mess on the lawn with twigs – so it’s not a plane!)

I carefully avoided any word play, but in you come like gangbusters!
And, Plane trees bring people to their knees with allergies.
Get thee back to the keyboard, male harridan.

Oh but which keyboard? The computer or the piano? (I believe I’m pretty useless at both). AND I never knew that about plane tree allergies… I knew that silver birches caused havoc with allergies.. but never planes….

In German we call it “Tulpenbaum” (tulip tree). I googled :Liriodendron tulipifera. It is some sort of magnolia. In our town we have a forest with exotic trees and I remembered the unusual shape of the leave. I never saw it bloom. Thank you!

I did some research and found this: (but not sure if it will come up right)…the last flower on the top row of photos looks like your flower…but, I can’t find anything else about it when I google it. 😦
