If you happen to walk through the Piazza di San Giovanni at just the right time, you’ll be treated to the sight of the police horses being readied for their day of patrolling the area near the Duomo. The historic centre of Florence doesn’t seem to have a high crime rate, so the horses and their riders generally have a rather quiet day. Their main problem seems to be the crush of tourists and their ever ready cameras.
Beautiful horses. I imagine they have their photos taken many times a day!

I saw many tourists with the dreaded selfie sticks, posing with the horses and their riders.

When can we expect a new migrant from up there?

Very handsome horses. I would think the policemen chosen for that job think themselves very fortunate. Have a lovely weekend.

Really liked Ralph’s comment when I saw it a few moments ago – so it sent me to a drawing – I’ll e-mail it to you!

Your drawing made me laugh out loud, Andante. Thank you and your talented brain and fingers for that. ❤

I suppose the police use seahorses in Venice 😀 ❤

You always come up with an apt comment, Ralph! And, you have inspired Andante to come up with one of her good cartoons. Watch for it in the next post. Baci, Bloke. 🙂 ❤

I usually answer comments on my Notifications page, but I just had to revisit this post as I was curious about Andante. Now that I know, I am on tender hooks waiting for your next post Yvonne…..if I’m not having a siesta that is 😀 ❤

I’m looking forward to that post too! She did such a good job with the donkeys (and other things) I can hardly wait to see the policemen on seahorses!

I’ll post about this time, or a little earlier, tomorrow, Ralph.

We saw them in Florence. Happy memories. I think they were guarding LV from over zealous shoppers.

I wonder if the policemen compete for that particular shift. It sounds a bit cushy!

I totally agree et. It would be interesting to know how it all works, including for the horses. Maybe the really hot (and cold) months aren’t quite so popular.

You might be right about that. It wouldn’t be so pleasant in the winter.

You have reminded me that I saw this routine on my visit to Florence but it was in the Piazza della Signoria where we were having an early cup of coffee in a bar. I didn’t take a picture.

I didn’t pay enough attention, day by day, to see if the horses and the policemen were on a rotating roster.

I love those horses. I saw them…well, their compatriots, when I was in Firenze in 2004 and was not fast enough to get their picture….it would have been a nice one of their lovely rear ends as they were headed away from me.
Four seasons! You want four seasons! Good for you! Although I was hoping you were preparing to apply for that dratted visa to live in Venice (or Firenze).

I’ve got a photo of some good rose bush fertiliser, courtesy of the horses!
Yes, I’m well over the tropical weather!

I think I’d be well over the snakes that seem to like that tropical weather. I’ve seen too many episodes of “Househunters International” in you part of the world.
I’ll take a lovely horse….rosebush fertilizer and all….over a snake any day. I like my pets with fur….or horsehair(not the sofa kind)

Those horsemen look the part, don’t they? No wonder the cameras are clicking. How does it feel to be back Yvonne?

Hi! It’s OK to be back, Gerard, my re-entry wasn’t as unpleasant as yours.
I’m in the throes of preparing my house for sale, I want to move to the north-east of Victoria where they have 4 seasons!

Best of luck with a speedy sale. We have 4 seasons here as well. Daffodils are popping up right now as I speak.
