This splendid building on the Zattere, Dorsoduro is home to the remnants of the Adriatica Societa di Navigazione, which was once a very active shipping goods and passenger company. Now, its role is diminished, with only one passenger ferry and 2 all cargo ferries to its name. It’s a building I’d love to see inside, I wonder if the interior reflects the exterior beauty and detail?
Y,
Nice to see you back in Dorsoduro, we stayed their the last two years, it’s nice to be so central.
Enjoy, it’s different when you are tasked as guide for family 😉

Yes, I’m interested to see how this all pans out, Rob! Kirk is a keen photographer, Kay is up for any adventure, so they should be good visitors.

Send Kirk out on his own in the early morning and see what he comes back with ….photography-wise anyway.

I might even rouse my lazy bones in the morning, with a companion photographer.

The “faux birthday” replayed itself quite well …. and we keep finding excuses for another spritz, another bottle of Prosecco …. just in case we didn’t celebrate it quite well enough…. we’ll raise a glass or two to you, and your latest set of Venetian adventures.

Yvonne is back in Venezia – all is right with the world! Love the pictures and if anyone could get an invite in to that building, it’s you. Go for it – just keep thinking if all else fails – you have your vino rosso waiting for you! Love the Dorsoduro, Andante – my jealousy has already set in! Have a great time being “the lady of the house” in your lovely new apartment! Candle light supper anyone?

The Zattere (on a sunny day) is a nice place to be. Wide fondamenta, water with lots of boats, plenty of bars, osterie, etc. The fly in the ointment, it must be cruise ship time, so twice a day, the water will be taken up by them. No Grandi Navi!

One morning in March (2010….was there with you for coffee one morning) I went back to the place where we had coffee on my own and in the hour I sat there a cruise ship and a huge Greek ferry came by.
That was March and now at the end of April I imagine there are even more of those monstrosities.

I’ll have to recruit Kirk and Kay to hold up No Grandi Navi signs, I guess!

I do have to agree that the world’s equilibrium is now back in order that Yvonne is in Venice!

With all this helpful advice, you have to get inside.

I believe breaking and entering is permitted under such circumstances. Go for it.

I’ll use your name for a reference when I’m in that female prison on the Giudecca, if I may, Andrew.

It’s very dramatic isn’t it? I suppose you could ask to use the bathroom?

I can use suchled’s idea first. If that doesn’t work, I can come back in a disguise and try yours!
Welcome to my blog, Frederick.

Whatever they may do to the building, I hope they won’t turn it into another hotel. Are you back in Venice now?

Hi, Emma. I agree with your thoughts about yet another hotel.
Yes, I’m back in Venice. 🙂

I agree that you need to wheedle your way inside. You know you want to.

Great building. Did you go inside?

Not yet, Gerard. I may follow the advice of suchled, and see what happens.

OK. This is what you do. You go and knock on the door
then in very bad Italian you say, ‘Scuse Signor Si non parlo Italiano . I am from Australia. We have no buildings so beautiful. I would love to come and take one small photografico of the inside of this building.”
If you aren’t invited in by now give up and go have a chianti.

Well, even if that approach fails, there’s always that glass of vino rosso, suchled. 🙂

Oh isn’t the detail wonderful! Yes I would love to see inside. Being new to you…where are you staying and is it the same place each time?

It’s not really new to me, but I haven’t stopped to take photos before, Jane. The apartment I’m in is about 2 minutes away, a vey handy location again. No, I’ve only stayed at the same place once (should that be twice?). The fellow from whom I rent manages quite a number of places, so it’s always a little surprise!
PS There are lots of family crests here.

So you’re on the Giudecca this time? We’re so boring, always seem to end up staying at the same place. We noticed that frontage the other week, and thought it looked very newly “done up”, and smart – but’d never have the nerve to “blag” our way in – perhaps sitting on the doorstep, with nose pressed against it in a wistful manner…? No, that’d never work.
Have a lovely time there, we’re already feeling nostalgic about the place and we’ve been back home only a couple of weeks. Jealousy will set in within another week…..

This is in Dorsoduro, so I look over to Giudecca when I go out onto the Zattere. I rather like going to a different place each time. I can highly recommend the place I’m in, Hyacinth would no doubt approve. 🙂
How did the faux birthday turn out?

I’m jealous ….and woefully under stocked with crests from Venice….not having been there very many times. Bring them on….!
I like the idea of a bit of a surprise if you know the approximate quality of apartment you will get . Is it a studio?

This one is probably larger than my own home, Jane. It has 2 bedrooms (my son and daughter in law are joining me), and a 3rd room with a single bed. There is a separate lounge and kitchen. It is not my usual type of apartment, I usually have one bedroom and a sofa-bed in the lounge/dining room/kitchen.
