Let the sun shine

In a few week’s time I’ll be back in Florence, for a long stay of discovery. I’m hoping there will be many sunny days for my explorations, like the day last year when I found a few sun kissed door knockers.

  4. You’ll enjoy Florence Yvonne, and having time to soak up the art and history will be great. There’s so much to see and do there and so many “must sees” that it’s easy to get burned out. The Renaissance will never look the same after Florence. If you want a fun fiction read that has lots of details about Florence, read Dan Brown’s book “Inferno.” And BTW, nice collection of door knockers. Enjoy your trip! ~James

    • Thanks, James! I have no doubt I’m going to find too much to absorb in Florence. I’ve done a lot of reading about Florence, the Renaissance and that Medici family! I’m taking Eve Borsook’s Companion Guide to Florence with me, it’s bursting with details and history.

I’ll see if our library has Inferno.

      Cheers

I may have mentioned this the last time you went, but the thing we most enjoyed the last time we went was using the Approach Guide ‘Last Supper Frescoes of Florence’. We attempted to see them all chronologically but only managed something like 6 out of 9 in a week.

        • I’ve got the Last Suppers on my list, but it’s so easy to get side-tracked, isn’t it! I have a pass to Santa Croce, so I think I’ll at least get to see Gaddi’s, which I understand is the senior of the pack.

Oh dear Yvonne, we’ll be gone again after our next visit to Venice by then – only early April this time. (Hoping the weather will be less wet than it was for us on our December visit to Venice) Er .. you will be posting lots of images from Florence that are not all door-knockers, won’t you? Not that we’ve anything against them … just there’ll be so much else to see, too, especially through your eyes.

    • I’m beginning to think we’re figments of one another’s imagination! I hope there’s less of that wet stuff, also.

Now, every time I’m tempted to show some more door-knockers, you know I’ll be thinking of you!

Happy Valentine’s day to the two of you. ❤

  18. What a coincidence. I wandered back from the solicitors this morning via the back streets. And what did I notice – the (door) knockers. Lots of interesting ones and immediately I decided that if the purchase goes through our home will have something different to put our stamp on it. I need to find a knocker-maker.
