Found on the Grand Canal, not far from the vaporetto stop San Stae, is Ca’ Pesaro, a project of the Venetian architect Baldassarre Longhena. It was built in the second half of the 17th century, for the Pesaro family. It now houses the Gallery of Modern Art, and is one of the museums included on the very reasonably priced combined museums pass.
No photos are allowed within the museum, but the courtyard and canal views were worth recording. (And, if you like modern art, you won’t be disappointed.)

Good morning from Down Under! It is a place worth visiting, even if it’s just to admire the palazzo itself. I enjoy going here, and to a few of the other museums, as much for the architecture as the art.

How do you pronounce ‘Pesaro’? If you’ve never heard a Venetian say it, you’ll probably say pez-AR-oh. But it’s PEZ-ar-oh. Foscari is similar – FOS-ca-ree.
But when you’ve said it in your head the wrong way for years, it’s hard to change.

It’s difficult knowing where that accent should land. One of my light bulb illumination moments came a few years back when I heard a Venetian pronounce Giudecca properly.

Great point. I feel the same way. We should make a list of names and their proper accent. There are quite a few that, I’m afraid, I’ve been mispronouncing in my head:

Vendramin-Calergi
Soranzo

The combined museums pass is such a good investment, as is the Chorus pass for churches, Michelle. For one thing, they make you go and search for the locations, so you find out more about the city.
