Brisbane

I quite like it when I have to go down to Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland. The South Bank development with the swimming lagoon, museum, art gallery, library and entertainment complex is always alive with people and interesting things to see, do, eat and drink. The King and I, the Rocky Horror Show and the Lion King are currently on at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre.

I’ve never seen any one riding in Brisbane’s version of the London Eye.

  1. Goodness knows what you’d get a fellow who is, what, 25-26 centuries old, Laurie.

I didn’t have a chance to see if the temple is still there; next time, I’ll do that.

Dismal Swamp is even more so, we’ve had rain all this long weekend.

    Cheers. πŸ™‚

  2. Buddha’s birthday? Why didn’t you let me know Yvonne? I haven’t got anything for him at all. Is the wooden temple still there with all the, ahem, adult carvings on it? Love the photos, especially the reflection. Back in the swamp eh? that’s terrible.
    Cheers
    Laurie.

They say that history repeats itself, so we just have to wait a bit for Pangea to reform.

  5. Nice escape Yvonne, that looks like a very nice mini break. That pool looks inviting as does the blue skies and lanterns. Add it to the travel list!
Mvaden1948 – do you live in Seattle? So do I! But I haven’t been on the Wheel yet. Just wish I could pick Seattle up and move it closer to Venice. πŸ™‚

    • Ciao Venicebybridge, Yvonne should get us together. Yes, I’m in the Seattle area (pretty close to Seatac Airport actually).
We need to get together over coffee or lunch and compare Venice notes. Every time I moan about the effort of getting to and from Venice I just remember what it takes for Yvonne to go there. No wonder she spends three months at a time.
You can contact me through my blog…it’s in Yvonne’s blog roll to the right here….Meandering with Misha.

        • Oh, good, The Befana is fun to watch. Don’t forget to see the Magi genuflecting to the Madonna, on the Clock Tower, every hour on that day. And, if you’re awake by then, the dip into the Adriatic on the Lido by i ibernisti at noon on New Year’s Day is also worth seeing. You’ll be fed on lentils (for good luck), and some cotechino (ugh) and wine.

No, I’ve never heard of an underground canal, except for a mention of one under the Piazza. But, I think that’s long buried. If you (or I) hear more, let’s share the information!

        • Some friends and I thought about this. Could it be the canal that goes under Chiesa San Stefano? You can see it from Campo Sant Angelo.

  9. I love the logo reflections. The Buddha celebration is certainly something we’d never see here. Brisbane seems to be quite lovely.
