My kind of grafitti

This morning, I was lurking in the Piazza, near the first flagpole near the Clock Tower, so a friend in Melbourne could see me on the Concordia webcam.

I was a little bit early and did some snooping around. Boy, what a lucky impulse that was. On the columns that you’ll find on the left side of the Clock Tower, this little treasure trove.

And then, on a column on the bacino side of the Ducal Palace, this happily drew my attention. I wonder how old this one is; I think it’s on one of the original columns. Can you make out the outline of a sailing ship?

It’s on this column, if you want to find it for yourself.

  3. It’s not exactly like we haven’t seen that kind of graffiti before. If my memory serves right that was the original “selfie”….or so the artist would like to believe. Yup, card carrying member of the Bad Crowd.

  4. I think we have some new members for the Bad Crowd, Julie! When I saw it, I wanted to grab a passer-by and say “Look”!! Cheers. 🙂

Er, I think one of them’s a bit rude, isn’t it? 🙂 Pretty similar to what I observed on the wall of one of the kids’ classrooms the other night – nothing new under the sun!

  6. Hi, Arthur. I finally saw one cat, but he vanished into a store where he probably spends his days.

  8. I have been jostled past those columns countless times. Today, there was no one to shove me around, and a fortuitous glance to my right completed the story.

  9. It’s not a matter of markers and spray paints, Anneli. And, the examples I found (in the main) are not as rude and crude as some we see these days.

  10. That’s certainly a more permanent kind of graffiti.

  11. It’s good right now, with fewer people, so you can get close to things.

Yes, I was spotted, and she sent me a screen shot, which shows a red blob near the flagpole. That would be me. 🙂

thanks that’s neat will have to show the college kids when I go with next group. If we would only spend more time really looking just think of all the things we would see. Was your friend able to see you?
