Bird’s-eye view

A friend who was visiting Venice had a room in a hotel on the Grand Canal, not far from Ca’ d’Oro. We went up onto the altana of the hotel, and had such a different view of that part of Venice.

Venice aficionados will have fun identifying some of the landmarks they can see.

That campanile has been under restoration for years!

There are wisps of smoke coming out of a couple of those chimneys

Looking across at another altana. It must have posed an interesting building challenge

It looks like Santa could get down this chimney

So: someone else frequents that Hotel, too. The first time we stayed there was an October, so it was pleasantly warm on the Foscari’s altana then. We’ll be back there soon, and really looking forward to it – although it may not be all that warm up there in later December! Counting down the days already …..

  4. Grazie, Julie,
If you are reading my blog you know just what a fabulous time I am having with blue skies and temps between 9 and 11! Cold at night but decent walking around weather. I’m trying to save it for Yvonne but who knows what the weather has in store in the next few weeks. Guess I’ll find out. Gorgeous for the next 10 days per the forecast though.

    • I was in bed when I wrote that so I think you meant back to sleep. My netbook is very portable. And I have been back to sleep and now up for the day…another glorious day in the City of My Dreams.
      Ciao, ciao,

  8. Probably a view I won’t be getting down here with my feet on the ground. Hoping to get up the campanile at San Georgio this trip.
