Trieste

Here are just a few photos from this beautiful city. There is so much to see and do, I’ll go back, I’m sure.

(I stayed for 2 nights at the B&B TriestePlus, which is about 5 minutes from the train station.)

I would like to say thank you to Stefania, Elena, Adriana and Eleanora for their warmth and hospitality. Elena took time from her busy life to be my personal tour guide.

This was the first photo I took, I thought I was back in Venice!

And then, I saw this, which also reminded me of Venice.

I liked the way they serve the ‘nibbles’ to go with your afternoon pause for a drink.

This snaggle tooth cat was hiding in an empty, overgrown lot.

The architecture is very different in the parts of Trieste that I saw. What looked like curtains turned out to be stucco (I think) applied to the exterior of this building.

It is the Casa della Bisse (House of the Snake), and here is the dramatic entry to the building.

I’ll post more about Trieste in the future.

Can you get the train direct from Venice? How long was the journey?

    • It was just over 2 hours on the Regionale Veloce, Andrew. (Don’t go through Udine, that’s an hour longer.) So, it can be done as a day trip. There’s a Hop On-Hop Off bus, or if you know where you’re going, the public buses will get you to the main attractions.
