Today, (Sunday), I took the train to Padua to visit lovely friends there, for lunch. I may never have to eat again. Because I was early for the train, I walked down the Rio Tera Lista Spagna to a bar near the Guglie Bridge, for a cup of coffee. I wandered a short distance along the Fondamenta Savorgnan, and saw this contingent of Babbo Natale.

It was a cool, crisp day. The Dolomites were clearly visible in the distance from the train. If you are a skier, this must make your feet itch to be on skis.
On Friday, after class, I had an appointment I wasn’t about to miss! I had heard about this place in Cannaregio through the e-venise website. A few email messages and telephone calls later, I had the permission to visit them to observe how they practise their craft.
Here is what I saw as I rang the bell to gain entry, walked down their long, narrow passage and finally saw the factory, with the waters of the northern lagoon in the distance.
This is an example of one of the many things produced here. The process was fascinating, hot, dirty, noisy … I loved it! I’ll tell you more tomorrow.

I couldn’t help but think “are we there yet?”(in a nice way) with that wonderful stone pathway! Yes, what classes? I’ve asked that before when you mentioned “when I got home from school”. What are you studying??? Inquiring minds want to know.

What a wonderful pathway you followed! And, a mini-railroad along the last stretch – in Cannaregio! Famed American poet Robert Frost wrote a wonderful poem about choosing the road less traveled and, although yours is far less rural than his, the adventure and discovery fit right in!
